About Walnuts

You would be amazed at the fact that walnuts are not nuts, as they are the seeds of a drupe from any tree in the Juglandaceae family. This brain-like nut is 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and consists of a single seed enclosed by a hard shell.

Production

Walnuts are a delicious and healthy snack that can be enjoyed year-round. They are packed with nutrients and grown with patience and require a lot of hard work. Usually, the harvesting of walnuts begins by the end of August. It is the time when the trees become adult, and the outer green hulls split apart. Then, mechanical shakers vigorously shake the trees so that the walnuts fall. The fallen walnuts are so picked up, and the outer green is removed. Finally, the bulk walnuts are ready for sale

Producers

Walnuts have a rich history dating back thousands of years, and they are the oldest tree food. The walnuts originate in Iran, specifically Persia. And USA, Iran, and China are the largest walnut-producing countries.

Properties

  1. The appearance of walnut is similar to a tiny brain, which also means that has nutrients like omega-3, Vitamin E, and polyphenols which help reduce oxidative damage and inflammation in your brain.
  2. The risk of breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers can be reduced because walnuts are rich in antitumor compounds like ellagic acid.
  3. Contains fatty acids that help strengthen hair follicles and improvements in their hair color and texture.
  4. The bioactive compounds in walnuts are beneficial for gut and heart health. They work by decreasing inflammatory markers and oxidative stress.
  5. The fiber-containing nuts are beneficial in providing energy and detoxing the body by flushing out harmful parasites.

Uses

Walnuts are a great addition to your food, specifically baked products to provide a nutty flavor and texture. These nuts are versatile and can be used in a variety of recipes. First of all, walnuts are a great substitute for eggs in baking as they provide a nice texture and help with rising.

Also, they have a delicious flavor that adds depth to your baked goods. Toss in a handful of crushed, toasted walnuts in butter-free, whole-grain cookies, cakes, pastries, biscotti, and even any dessert. Also, use them as an ingredient in any baked product of your choice.
