Also known as Pinon, Pinoli, or Chilgoza, pine nuts are edible seeds of pine. Pine nuts are ivory-colored elongated small seeds that are ½ inch long. They are extensively used by many known and unknown cultures around the world. Around 20 varieties of pine nuts are available to harvest worldwide.

Production 

Pine trees take around 25 years to begin producing edible nuts. And the production and harvesting of pine nuts require a large workforce and this is evident from its high price. Pine nuts ripen in the late summer and to harvest them, pine trees with low branches are needed. These trees have both opened and unopened pine cones on them. To obtain the cones from trees, they are twisted off the branches. And finally, we obtain pine nuts from the pine cones with each pine cone scale having 2 kernels. 

Producers

Pine nuts are one of the most popular foods in the world. They have been around for thousands of years, and there are so many different types of pine nuts that it can be challenging to keep track of them all. These are available in various varieties in multiple locations. The pine nuts grown in Europe are called stone pine, while the Korean pines are known and grown in Asia. However, Russia remains the largest producer of pine nuts.
