Production

The fruits of the pumpkin plant have a tiny seed inside and are fit for humans to eat. The pumpkins are first harvested with a single machine that separates the fruit from the vine and passes it through a machine that simultaneously removes the seeds and macerates the flesh at the end of the fruit’s peak ripeness. Then, the flesh is added back to the soil to enrich it with nutrients for the crop the next year. The seeds are cleaned, dried, sorted, and dehulled once harvested.

Producers

Pumpkins need a warm, sunny position, shelter from cold winds, and moisture-retentive soil. The seeds are extensively grown in China and India, but Russia, and Ukraine, are also giant producers. Also, pumpkin seeds are widely grown and supplied in the western world in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Properties

  1.  Pumpkin seeds contain valuable nutrients containing phosphorus, manganese, protein, and fiber to help maintain muscle health and support energy production.
  2. An excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, C, E, and K. Vitamin E enhances immune responses and protects against several infectious diseases.
  3. The antioxidants in pumpkin seeds help reduce inflammation in the body, protect cells from harmful free radicals and help fight against heart disease and cancer.
  4. Zinc in the seeds improves sleep as it induces melatonin levels, the hormone that regulates your sleep cycle.

Uses

Many people like using pumpkin seeds as an ingredient in baking and other cooking recipes. Before baking, sprinkle some on scones, muffins, quick bread, or pumpkin pies. Also, they are tasty, especially when added to soups, salads, smoothies, yogurt, and more.
